Annexation

Annexation is the act of one State claiming sovereignty over all or part of the territory of another State. It is forbidden by international law. Nonetheless, in case annexation does take place, the laws of the occupying power may not be imposed in their entirety. Civilians in the occupied territories remain protected by humanitarian law (GCIV Art. 47).
